San Sebastian is a city on the Bay of Biscay, surrounded by hills, in the heart of the Spanish Basque Country. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in the whole of Spain, with a large influx of visitors for its annual film, jazz and other festivals. San Sebastian is home to over three-quarters of a million people, and in addition to being a popular holiday resort with surfers and sightseers alike, plays hosts to four universities. San Sebastian has an oceanic climate, with warm summers and cool winters; overclouding is a fairly frequent occurrence in the area, which experiences moderate rainfall. The city has two railway stations; RENFE covering both local and national, and Euskotren, covering local routes, although passengers are advised to check travel times, which can be lengthy in relation to the distance travelled. For those interested in the local gastronomy and willing to spend money, San Sebastian has a number of Michelin-starred restaurants. Enterprise Rent-A-Car has an outlet in San Sebastian.

Attractions in San Sebastian
The opportunity to walk out of the city centre and on to a beach is a big draw for many of the visitors to San Sebastian. La Concha, to the west of the city, is the largest and most popular beach with bathers and swimmers. Lifeguards operate in the area and there are shower facilities. Any visitor's itinerary should include the Old Town, where they will find the 18th-century Basilica of St Mary of the Chorus, which has a very good example of a Romanesque altarpiece, a fine Baroque facade and outstanding stained glass work. The Old Town is full of bars and cafes, and is a great place to sample Pinxtos, the Basque version of tapas.

Parking and Traffic Information in San Sebastian
San Sebastian is served by the AP-8 from Bilbao and the A-1 to Irun, France, or the south. Visitors wishing to head for Concha beach and avoid the city centre should leave the AP8 at the first junction. The drive into the heart of the city is along the Paseo del Arbol de Guernica. There is very little parking in the Old Town, so as far as parking goes, it is best avoided. There is limited street parking in the centre, but this is time-restricted and metered. Many of the long-stay car parks are subterranean and can be difficult to locate without a reliable map. Drivers can expect to pay up to two euros an hour.
